A Dungeon is the room of the castle were prisoners are kept. It was commonly below the basement and had extremely poor living conditions.

Dungeons often had torturing devices, and chains on the wall. The chain would be locked to the prisoners wrists, keeping them from escaping. They were rarely cleaned, so they were home to many insects, rodents, and other animals.
